Georgian Bay Leg 2 Ojibway Club, Bustards Killarney (Days 97-99)

The next day we made our way through the rocky channels of Georgian Bay to another picturesque anchorage next to Stairs Island.  We were the only boat there that night and it was our base of operations for exploring waters that were non navigable for the Jackie B III.

But our little dinghy was up for the challenge.  I kept watch for the rocks and we found the hidden beach before the waters opened up again.
Our goal for this exploration was the Ojibway Club.  They have gasoline for our dinghy and a small but well provisioned market.  The locals send their children here for “camp.”  Some bring their children and others drive themselves in various small craft.  We arrived at the end of the day and it was very busy for a while.

After picking up a few things from the market we had a lovely walk around the island on the club trails.  It was great to move after being in the boat all day.

We made our way back to the anchorage and had a great dinner

One of our new favorite things to do is go go paddling after dinner.

The next morning, when plotting our course for the Bustard Islands, we discovered that we couldn’t actually move forward but had to retrace our steps as the “inside passage” was not a good choice for a boat over 4o feet long with lots of hairpin turns. So we backtracked a bit but found our way to a perfect anchorage.
We went exploring first by dinghy and Mike found blueberries to pick.  For those of you who do not know the story of how we met, picking blueberries in the north channel was a commonality we had that made each of us stand out to the other.
After lunch we decided that our best tool for further exploration would be the paddle boards.  There were so many nooks and cranes to get into that even our trusted dinghy required more depth

Note the clear water and the rock leges we picked our way through.  We could have spent days here.

Returning to the boat we had a rainbow and then a beautiful sunset.

The morning brought fog but very calm seas.

There were also thunderstorms in the area and we were able to navigate around and in between them using our onboard electronics. Note our crazy path in the third map to the right below

We were very happy to reach Killarney, our safe harbor for the night.
Our Journey
