Days 16-22 Nor’easter in Deltaville

Our stop in Deltaville, Virginia, turned from one night into seven due to the strong winds and high surf brought on by a Nor’easter.  We are trying to remember that this is pleasure boating and rough seas are NOT pleasurable

Well, sitting on the boat at our dock was also not too pleasurable.  The wind was coming into the harbor and we rocked and rolled the entire time we were there.

Deltaville is a sleepy little town with many marinas but very few restaurants near the marina.  I had to bicycle 3.5 miles to the grocery store, although the marina did have a loaner car if I hadn’t needed the exercise.

They do however have a terrific maritime museum, complete with a waterside exhibit of old Chesapeake Bay boats that used to be built in the Deltaville boatyards.  I thought the weather would be better so intended to get back there for more photos but we also had a lot of rain in addition to the wind.

Instead “we” did a lot of boat maintenance.  Mike worked on our generator which led him to discover a leak and one thing led to another so he was in the engine room most of our time there. I even climbed down to “help” him out by handing home the appropriate tools.

The best thing about Deltaville was all the Looper boats that were there with us. This was our first stop after the rendezvous and our first time socializing on the loop.  The photo above is of our pizza party in the captain’s lounge at the Regatta Yacht Center. We also gathered there to play games and share stories.

After dinner we noticed a beautiful sunset, the first one all week.  We all got our hopes up that maybe we would be able to leave soon.

But we had one more day.  This was our last get together at The Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar.  We had 10 boats represented from the AGLCA and 19 people from 4 marinas.

“He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.”
