Chicago Days 112-115

We crossed Lake Michigan and went directly to Chicago. What a sight it is as the city comes closer and closer into view.

The view from our slip at Burnham Harbor was fantastic.
It was even more spectacular at night.  If you tap on the picture you can  zoom in on the building with blue bar.  You can see the message # Be Kind in the middle.  They had a different message every night.
Before we had even thought about what we were going to do first, some looper friends we met when they passed through Holland; Gavin and Lica, contacted us and invited us to go up the Chicago River with them on their beautiful, de-masted Catamaran. They have been living on their boat since 2009 and have come all the way from New Zealand via the Indian Ocean, Europe and the Atlantic.

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed going out on someone else’s boat.
I had so many photos of the Chicago River that I mad a little video.  Notice the modern buildings reflecting the older ones.  The views were breathtaking.
After we finished our tour of the river we found a pizza place on a back canal called Robert’s Pizza & Dough company.  Robert came out to check on our meal and told us his story.  Only he and his daughter know his recipe and the pizza dough is being made from a 28 year old sourdough starter.  Best Pizza I have ever eaten! Mike even jumped into Lake Michigan in an area they call the playpen and we finished the day with a sunset.
We did not do the best job of taking photos the next day but we were having so much fun.  We started with a bike ride along the lakeshore to the Museum of Science and Industry. Then back past the boat to the Navy Pier for a late lunch.  We also got lost for a while trying to meet some loopers for lunch.  We caught up with them later.  We finished the day at the Marina bar with more loopers and even danced a bit with live entertainment.
We found the Shedd Aquarium fascinating. So many different habitats.  Small fish tank displays, a penguin habitat and…

the shark tank!

The venue for the dolphin show was like an infinity pool overlooking Lake Michigan.
Here is a brief clip of the show.

Our last day in Chicago we began with a sunrise walk before going over to the Chicago River.  Unfortunately, the weather was turning and we were not able to have our son’s family our for a much anticipated visit.
